Hello, I'm Marie
I work as a project manager and am a parent. An expat based in Paris, France.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary contract gradually became a new chapter in life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to France wasn't in the long-term plan. As with many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than expected.
The Adjustment Phase
Cultural adjustment, doubt, and a lot of learning by doing were there. Yet, gradually habits formed. We found places that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Created VelvetHarborBox
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial travel material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in France.
What This Site Represents (And What It Doesn't)
This site IS:
- Practical wisdom gained from living in France
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site ISN'T:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in France continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Paris or anywhere in France, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Kind regards,
Marie
